CFA® Level III essay self-grader

Constructed response is the hardest part of Level III to mark yourself. Paste your own answer and your own marking key — this scores you point by point, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

How to self-grade a Level III essay

  • Answer only what is asked. Each command word — calculate, justify, determine, recommend — earns marks only for that action. Extra commentary scores nothing.
  • One point, one mark. Marks are awarded per distinct point, not per paragraph. Write in short, separable statements so each scoring point is unmistakable.
  • Show the step that earns the mark. For “justify” and “calculate,” the reasoning or working is usually where the mark sits, not the final word.
  • Grade against the key, not your memory. Mark strictly to the points above; partial credit only where the key allows it.

This tool stores no CFA Institute content. You supply both your answer and your marking key, and grading runs entirely in your browser — the same private, on-device model as the rest of AlphaDrill. It is a study aid, not an official score.
